Tonight I was in Snyder NY. For the most part it was very positive. Votes and signs. I love the kindness of people. Michelle met me at the door and was a "yes". After I left her and was walking across the road, she came back out of her house and brought me some chicken that she had just cooked in a cup. Yes, I was hungry and Monica Boyd Elderkin who was walking with me, enjoyed snacking on it. What a kind gesture from a stranger.
THE BAD AND THE UGLY:
I generally introduce myself to people walking with their dogs etc even though they might not be on our canvassing list. I shook the hand of a man and his wife. He proceeded to talk about how bad things are right now. Of course, I am thinking, "heck yes!", we have another like minded person. BOY, WAS I WRONG. He mentioned how he and his friends are SO upset about "what happened to Kavanaugh", "yearbooks, made up accusations, women consenting and then pretending they were assaulted to get a man in trouble".
Of course, I try to be a gentle teacher. I spoke of my experience with assault. I told him I don't remember the day or exact address but will never forget the person or what it felt like. He then asked if I was drinking when it happened! I said "no, I was at work". I told him that a women does not have to check off a list of things to do to validate the truth of her assault. Then I mentioned a woman being raped and not reporting it or telling anyone. He then asked if "she" was wearing a low cut top!. OMG, his wife was mortified.
The conversation continued and I graciously stayed in the battle. He shook my hand and said he would definitely vote for me but finished with... "But, make sure you lock her (Clinton )up."
Wow.... Monica and I left and had to shake that one off.
